RSV Vaccine

What is RSV?
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a frequent cause of coughs and colds. While RSV infections typically resolve on their own, they can occasionally be serious, particularly for infants and older adults. RSV infections are common, with nearly all children affected by age two.
Most cases are mild, but infants under six months, premature babies, adults over 75, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness. RSV can lead to bronchiolitis in infants and pneumonia in both babies and older adults.

RSV symptoms usually appear within a few days and often include a runny nose, cough, sneezing, tiredness, and a high temperature. Babies may be irritable and feed less. If RSV leads to serious infections like pneumonia or bronchiolitis, symptoms can worsen to include a worsening cough, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, feeding difficulties in infants, wheezing, and confusion in older adults.
